Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about pig roast catering.

How many people does a whole pig feed?+
A whole pig (80–100 lbs) typically feeds 80–120 guests. A half pig serves 40–60 guests, and a suckling pig is perfect for 20–30 guests. We always recommend ordering slightly more than your guest count to ensure everyone gets seconds!
How long does it take to roast a whole pig?+
A whole pig takes approximately 8–10 hours to roast on a spit, depending on size and weather conditions. Our caterers arrive early in the morning so your pig is perfectly done for dinner service. The slow roasting is what creates that incredibly tender, fall-off-the-bone meat.
How much does pig roast catering cost in Canada?+
Pig roast catering in Canada typically ranges from $500 for a basic pulled pork package to $3,000+ for a full-service whole pig roast with sides and staff. The average wedding pig roast runs $3,000–$7,000. Per-person pricing ranges from $18–$45 depending on the package.
How far in advance should I book?+
For weddings, we recommend booking 6–12 months ahead, especially for summer dates. Corporate events typically need 2–8 weeks lead time. Backyard parties can often be booked 1–4 weeks out, but peak summer weekends fill up fast.
What's included in a typical pig roast package?+
A standard package includes the whole pig, spit-roasting on-site, carving service, and basic condiments (applesauce, BBQ sauce, rolls). Premium packages add sides, beverages, full serving staff, setup/cleanup, plates, cutlery, and napkins.
Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?+
Absolutely! While the star of the show is the pig, our caterers offer vegetarian sides, gluten-free options, and can accommodate most dietary needs. Just let your caterer know when booking so they can plan accordingly.
What if it rains on the day of my event?+
Experienced pig roast caterers come prepared for Canadian weather. The roasting can be done under a tent or canopy, and many caterers bring their own shelter. We always recommend having a rain backup plan for the serving/eating area.
Do I need any special equipment or permits?+
Your caterer handles all the equipment. You just need to provide a level area of at least 10x10 feet for the roasting setup, ideally on grass or gravel (not wooden decks). Some municipalities require an open-fire permit — your caterer can advise on local rules.
What's the difference between a pig roast and a méchoui?+
Méchoui is the French-Canadian tradition of whole-animal roasting, deeply rooted in Quebec culture. While both involve spit-roasting, méchoui often includes lamb as well as pork, and traditionally features Québécois seasonings and accompaniments like tourtière and sugar pie.
Can I rent a pig roaster and do it myself?+
Yes! Many of our caterers offer roaster rental packages starting around $200–$300 per day. This includes the spit, motor, charcoal setup, and detailed instructions. It's a great option for experienced grillers who want the hands-on experience.
